The UK coronavirus death toll today is the lowest since before Christmas. Today a further 215 lives were lost to Covid-19, the same as on December 21, with 9,834 positive tests returned.

In comparison, last Sunday 258 deaths were recorded, compared to 373 the week before that. The counts tend to be lower on Sundays and Mondays due to a lag in reporting.

Yesterday another 445 people's death were added to the tally, along with 10,406 new cases. That was the lowest rise in positive tests on a Saturday since the end of September.

Tragically a 16-year-old with no known underlying health conditions died in England yesterday. On Friday a 13-year-old was among those who lost their lives to Covid-19.
