The UK's coronavirus death toll has risen by three - while worrying figures show 2,948 people have tested positive for the virus.

The total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic now stands at 41,554. There are currently 756 patients in hospital with Covid-19, with 69 on ventilators, government data shows.

Since yesterday, 124 have been admitted with the virus. It comes after nearly 3,000 new cases were detected in the previous 24 hours, as the government grapples with ways of preventing a second wave.

Earlier today a further five hospital deaths were reported - four in England and one in Northern Ireland. The latest figures include those who died in other settings, including care homes and private addresses.
