The UK's coronavirus hospital death toll has increased by 675 with one person aged under 19 among the latest victims. England reported 571 new fatalities, Wales had 49, Scotland recorded 48 and Northern Ireland had seven.
It is the lowest daily total on a Saturday since January 2, when 479 deaths were reported, and a sign that fatalities are starting to decline after the UK recently passed the peak of the second wave.
By comparison, the tolls announced on recent Saturdays were 787 on January 30, 825 on January 23, 926 on January 16, and 789 on January 9.
The latest figures were revealed as a senior medic warned against easing lockdown measures too soon because hospitals are "still in the thick" of coronavirus infections.
