Birmingham has been added to the Government's UK coronavirus watchlist with Northampton upgraded to an 'area of intervention' after a spike in infections.
The UK's second largest city is now on the watch list as an 'area of enhanced support', while Northampton has become an 'area of intervention'.
Northampton has seen a spike in cases following an outbreak at Greencore sandwich factory, which supplies M&S. Hundreds of workers tested positive at the facility, which has now closed down.
Meanwhile, Slough in Berkshire has been named an 'area of concern' after a rise in coronavirus cases, Public Health England has revealed.
