Shocking numbers reveal UK pubs have been forced to throw out 70 million pints of out-of-date beer during the coronavirus crisis.

The loss occurred due to the amount of unsold beer during the country's lockdown, which began on March 23. Experts say the duty on the unsold beer can be claimed back by pubs, according to The Sun.

However, with such a high amount of wastage it has cost pubs all over millions of pounds. Data has been calculated according to the nation's 47,000 pubs with ten beer taps each – with many pubs finding it difficult to dispose of the pints during lockdown.

However, for minimal waste some unsold beer has been donated to farmers who can use it to create organic fertiliser or animal feed.
