Britain will need an “extreme” lockdown to bring the coronavirus crisis under control, a new study has warned. Researchers said the Government would need to implement “extreme measures” to prevent a huge spike in deaths and overwhelmed intensive care units.
These findings could see a return to the harsh lockdown measures that sparked misery for millions at the start of the pandemic.
The study, carried out by the Centre for the Mathematical Modelling of Infectious Diseases Covid-19 working group and published in The Lancet medical journal, analysed the potential impact of different measures to control the spread of Covid-19.
