A new UNICEF report ranks Ireland in the top third of countries for child wellbeing but shows young people here struggling with their mental health.
Gwyther Rees, co-author of the global study of 11 to 15-year-olds, said while Ireland fares well academically, life satisfaction was much lower than many other countries surveyed.
Overall, Ireland is placed 12th among 38 OECD/EU countries for child wellbeing. Speaking on Morning Ireland, Mr Rees said the UNICEF report card is based on objective indicators such as child mortality as well as surveys with children.
