Victoria Derbyshire has been heaped with praise after she presented the news with the phone number for a domestic violence helpline scribbled on her hand.

The BBC News presenter made the powerful statement as it emerged that reports of domestic abuse have shot up during the coronavirus lockdown.

In the clip, the 51-year-old has the number visibly etched on her skin in black biro while reading out messages from self-employed viewers struggling from financial hardship.

Victoria chose not to explain what the number meant while she was presenting the segment, which saw viewers Google it out of curiosity and then share the number and its meaning on Twitter.
