Virgin Atlantic is to cut a total of 3,150 jobs across its operations, or up to a third of its workforce The airline also said it would stop using Gatwick Airport as part of its battle to survive the impact of Covid-19.
Shai Weiss, chief executive at Virgin Atlantic, said the airline has weathered many storms since its first flight 30 years ago, but none has been as devastating as Covid-19.
The airline also said that "constructive" discussions with several stakeholders, including the UK government, are ongoing. It also said it continues to benefit from shareholders' support.
