The number of new cases per 100,000 people is nearly twice as high in those aged between 10-19 compared to the rest of the population and is fuelling the current trend of rising figures, the town's director of public health has said.
Doctors at the Royal Bolton Hospital are worried that these cases could be transmitted from younger age groups up to older, more vulnerable people - a pattern which was seen in September of last year when Bolton's infection rates rapidly rose to become the highest in the country.
