It had started to wane in popularity by the time it left the airwaves in 2001 but it’s still remembered fondly by most Irish people over the age of 30. Miley Byrne – Mick Lally Perhaps the best known of all the Glenroe characters was Miley ‘Well, Holy God’ Byrne.

He was the heart and soul of the show and became synonymous with the character despite having a very successful stage career after the series ended.
