The RTÉ series Glenroe started in 1983 and was a massive hit with viewers all around the country. It was the Sunday night drama the whole family curled up to watch after Where in the World?
and it’s theme song marked the official end of the weekend. It had started to wane in popularity by the time it left the airwaves in 2001 but it’s still remembered fondly by most Irish people over the age of 30. Miley Byrne – Mick Lally Perhaps the best known of all the Glenroe characters was Miley ‘Well, Holy God’ Byrne.
He was the heart and soul of the show and became synonymous with the character despite having a very successful stage career after the series ended.
