Wilko has axed it's iconic pick 'n' mix selection over coronavirus-related hygiene fears. The Nottinghamshire-based company will remain open to sell essential goods but its popular sweetie selection is temporarily off the menu for shoppers.
Non-food essentials such as household cleaning supplies, toilet paper, over the counter medicines, baby and pet supplies will still be available.
It comes at the same time the firm has introduced new cleaning and social distancing measures to streamline its services. This includes the introduction of queue marshalls, protective screens for staff and new floor markings.
The stores will also close at 5pm to give its team members times to clean shelves. Jerome Saint-Marc, Wilko chief executive, said:
