Almost 2,800 dead from confirmed or suspected coronavirus in Scotland

Nearly 2,800 people have died of confirmed or suspected coronavirus in Scotland. Updated figures, from the National Records of Scotland  (NRS)  show 2,795 deaths have been recorded as of May 3.

The figures, which are announced weekly, account for all deaths registered in Scotland where Covid-19 is mentioned on the death certificate.

These numbers differ from those announced daily by the  Scottish Government  as they include all suspected and probable cases of coronavirus.

According to the NRS there were 523 deaths relating to Covid-19 between April 27 and May 3 – a decrease of 135 from the previous week, April 20 to April 26.More than half of all registered deaths involving COVID-19 this week occurred in care homes, 59% compared to 52% in
