SEATTLE - Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos on Thursday announced he was donating $100 million to help food banks across the United States.
There is a growing need for donations as millions of Americans are out of work amid the coronavirus pandemic. In an Instagram post, Bezos said the donation would be made to Feeding America which will quickly send the funding to its network of food banks: Even in ordinary times, food insecurity in American households is an important problem, and unfortunately COVID-19 is amplifying that stress significantly.
Non-profit food banks and food pantries rely in large part on surplus food from a range of food businesses. For example, many restaurants donate excess food.
