The United States has seen its deadliest day in the pandemic to date with more than 3,000 people losing their lives - more than were killed in 9/11.

The US broke its own record on Wednesday with at least 3,054 people dying due to Covid-19 in a single day for the first time, compared to 2977 in the 2001 terror attack, Hospitalisations also reached a record level of 106,688 in a single day, up 18 per cent on the previous weeks.

In total the country has had more than 290,000 recorded deaths and almost 15.5 million cases, making it by far the worst affected nation in the world.
