WASHINGTON - The Senate Judiciary Committee is schedule to begin considering Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination to the Supreme Court on Thursday morning following two days of questioning.Barrett, a 48-year-old federal appeals court judge and devout Catholic, has presented herself as a judge with deeply held religious beliefs but vowed to approach each case with an “open mind.” The meeting on Thursday is a procedural formality and will be held ahead of a panel of law experts and advocates who will testify for and against Barrett’s nomination.
Senators are expected to discuss the nomination but then push the committee vote on Barrett until next week, per committee rules.
