The Catholic Archbishop of Dublin, Dermot Farrell, has said he is renewing his advice to parish priests to postpone holding communions and confirmations for a further month.
It follows an announcement by the Government yesterday in which it "noted" the concerns expressed by church leaders over the sacraments.
Politicians also outlined plans to allow communions and confirmations to take place in September. The decision was taken at yesterday's meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Covid-19.
Archbishop Farrell, speaking at a ceremony conferring him as the Metropolitan of the Archdiocese, said: "In the light of the Government's statement yesterday, I have renewed my advice to parishes to postpone the celebration of the sacraments until
