Arriva has responded to outrage over a staff poster warning bus drivers to charge NHS staff. The firm is not alone in Greater Manchester, with major operators First and Stagecoach, along with Metrolink and rail companies, also continuing to charge healthworkers as they slash timetables to meet reduced demand and a waning workforce.
However, Arriva chose to draw attention to the fact with a poster warning drivers that NHS staff on services in England - unlike healthworkers using routes in Wales - would have to keep paying.
Arriva has now acknowledged that the wording of the notice is 'not clear or reflective' of their commitment to support key workers.
