Covid testing vans are to hit the road as part of a drive to target outbreaks across Ayrshire and Arran.Asymptomatic test teams will tour the county in a new fleet of custom-built vehicles.It means rapid testing can be rolled out where it is needed most.Jackie Lumsden, mass testing programme manager, said: “As Covid-19 restrictions continue to ease, it is important to remember that coronavirus hasn't gone away.“Case numbers across Ayrshire remain high, and while the majority of people who get coronavirus experience mild symptoms, we do need to protect more vulnerable people."Testing regularly allows us to identify cases early.The Ayrshire Live app is available to download now.Get all the local news in your area – plus features, football news and the latest on the coronavirus crisis – at your fingertips 24/7.The free download features the latest breaking news and exclusive stories while you can customise your page with the sections that matter to you.The Ayrshire Live app is available to download now on iOS and Android."And so even if you don’t have Covid-19 symptoms, it is important that you take regular lateral flow tests.“These vans will make it easier for us to take our testing capability for those with no symptoms where it is needed most."And so if there is high community transmission in a particular town or village, our vans will pitch up for a few days to carry out tests on those without symptoms."Our testing teams can carry out tests safely and securely from the vans, and will also be able to distribute lateral flow test kits.”Three large vehicles with testing capability will be joined by three support vehicles.Members of the public will be able to talk to the person taking the test through the perspex screen –
