PHILADELPHIA - A man has been hospitalized after he was shot multiple times in Philadelphia, according to police. Authorities say the 42-year-old man was shot on the 2500 block of Shelmire Avenue at 11:52 p.m.

Human Fertilization and Embryology Authority said fewer than five babies have been born this way in the U.K. but did not provide further details to protect the families' identities.

President Joe Biden's administration on Thursday will begin denying asylum to migrants who show up at the U.S.-Mexico border without first applying online or seeking protection in a country they passed through.It's part of new measures meant to crack down on illegal border crossings while creating new legal pathways, including a plan to open 100 regional migration hubs across the Western Hemisphere, administration officials said.While stopping short of a total ban, the measure imposes severe limitations on asylum for those crossing illegally who didn't first seek a legal pathway. The rule was first announced in February, but the finalized version takes effect Thursday. It’s almost certain to face legal challenges.

PHILADELPHIA - Authorities are searching for a hit-and-run driver who police say struck a woman and three children Tuesday night in Center City. The collision happened around 10 p.m. near the intersection of Broad and Arch streets, according to preliminary information. Chief Inspector Scott Small said the woman and two other victims were taken to Jefferson University Hospital, and a 9-year-old was taken to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. The woman is reportedly in critical condition and two other victims are in stable condition.

PHILADELPHIA - Staff members who rushed to save the life of a 12-year-old boy who collapsed in the school gym were honored Wednesday night for their heroic efforts. Steven Green, a sixth grader at Bala Cynwyd Middle School, was participating in a morning basketball program at the school in February when he collapsed. "I was the first one there, his friends were saying ‘Steven, are you okay!?’ I ran over there and Steven was on the floor and I checked his pulse and there was nothing there," Gym teacher Adam Miller said.Miller called 911 and school nurse Mary Clary rushed into the gym to provide emergency CPR. Clary told FOX 29 she had recently been re-certified in CPR from by a fellow district nurse. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESGym teacher Collin Whiteside helped with CPR until paramedics from Narberth Ambulance Company arrived and rushed Steven to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. "I keep thinking over and over again about everybody that helped out and how prepared everybody was and thank god everyone was willing and able to do what they did that morning," Whiteside said.It was later revealed that Steven has a condition called ARVC, a disease of the heart muscle that causes irregular and potentially life-threatening heart rhythms.

PHILADELPHIA - Two Philadelphia prisoners were able to leave their holding cells and walk through an unmanned housing unit before escaping to freedom through a hole in a perimeter fence, according to a new report obtained Tuesday by FOX 29.Ameen Hurst, 18, and Nasir Grant, 28, sprung themselves free from the Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Center around 8:30 Sunday night, investigators said. VICTORIA, Australia - The 48-year-old was found safe and well by Victoria Police after her car became bogged in mud. A woman who survived five days stranded in the Australian bush with only a few snacks and a bottle of wine was rescued by Victoria Police on Friday.According to officials, the woman from Cheltenham in Melbourne went on a vacation to Bright, Victoria, but when she didn’t make her daily call to check in with family on April 30, they became worried. Emergency services carried out extensive searches but were unable to find any sign of the 48-year-old.(Credit: Victoria Police via Storyful) But, on May 5 – five days after her disappearance – a police helicopter spotted the woman’s car at the end of a dirt road. Reed Messer, 42, was extradited back to Delaware to face sexual abuse and rape charges.  WILMINGTON, Del. - A former educator has been sent back to Delaware after being charged with rape for a sexual relationship with a former student, Delaware State Police say. According to authorities, 42-year-old Reed Messer became the subject of an investigation in December 2022 when State Police received a report from the Delaware Division of Family Services alleging the former teacher had a sexual relationship with a juvenile student at Stanton Middle School in Wilmington nearly a decade prior. Troopers say an investigation revealed Messer had sexual relations with the student in a relationship that began in October 2014 and lasted for about two months. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESOn April 26, troopers obtained an arrest warrant for Messer, who moved to South Carolina, authorities say. Law enforcement in South Carolina found Messer at her residence and took her into custody, according to officials. State Police say Messer was extradited back to Delaware on Monday and charged with sexual abuse of a child and rape. 

COVID-19 vaccine maker Novavax has announced plans to cut about a quarter of its global workforce as it seeks to reduce expenses. The company's shares jumped as much as 40% on Tuesday as it forecast a much higher 2023 revenue than Wall Street expected and spurred hopes of a recovery for the cash-strapped biotech.  The development came even mere days after the World Health Organization ended the global emergency status for COVID-19. Novavax said that it expects to trim next year’s costs for research and development as well as selling, general and administrative expenses by about 40% to 50% compared to 2022.
