Derek Chauvin has been charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in connection to the death of George Floyd. ( Hennepin County Jail )MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin made his first court appearance Monday in the death of George Floyd, where a judge set his bail at $1.25 million with no conditions.
Chauvin, a veteran police officer, was seen putting his knee on the back of Floyd’s neck’s as he repeatedly said he could not breathe.
Chauvin, 44, is charged with second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. He made a brief 10-minute court appearance via video from the state’s maximum security prison in Oak Park Heights, where he being isolated from the rest.
