The United Kingdom's second largest city is now recording the most coronavirus cases in the country. Birmingham is now at risk of a major local lockdown after a week to week rise in its rate of cases per 100,000 people.
Last week it was 19.7, whereas today it is 31.7. The city has also recorded 362 new cases in a week - the highest number anywhere in the UK.
Today's update of the rolling seven-day rate of new cases of Covid-19 for every local authority in England uses Public Health England data, which is published on August 18 on the Government's coronavirus online dashboard.
The figures, for the seven days to August 15, are based on tests carried out in laboratories - pillar one of the Government's testing programme - and in the wider
