BREAKING: UK Covid cases surge by 58,000 in biggest daily rise in almost a year

The UK has recorded the highest number of daily Covid-19 cases in almost a year. Cases have surged with a further 58,194 lab-confirmed cases of the virus as of 9am on Friday (December 10), the Government said.

That’s the highest daily increase in cases since January 9 of this year, when 59,937 cases were recorded. READ MORE: Boris Johnson 'now considering new Plan C coronavirus restrictions' A further 120 people have died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19.

Separate figures published by the Office for National Statistics show there have now been 171,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.
