British Airways' senior cabin crew are facing a 55 per cent pay cut amid a coronavirus pandemic that has brought airline travel to a virtual standstill, it is reported.

It is said that the salaries of standard flight attendants will be cut to £24,000 a year and senior crew would have to downgrade to the level of basic crew, leaving staff "appalled".

The claims emerged just days after Britain's flag carrier confirmed 12,000 job cuts at the airline would still go ahead despite the Government extending its furlough scheme until the end of October.

Under new contract terms and conditions, cabin crew will reportedly receive commission from in-flight sales and performance levels, and a five per cent 'flex' allowance.
