The Cabinet Sub-Committee on COVID-19, which is chaired by the Taoiseach, will meet later this morning to review the impact of the additional travel, work and social distancing restrictions announced last Friday, how they are operating, and to consider their next move.

The meeting comes following news that the death toll in Ireland from the virus has risen from nine just one week ago to 85 yesterday.

So far, 126 confirmed COVID-19 cases have been admitted to intensive care units in hospitals, up from 39 a week ago. In addition, a significant number of seriously ill people -suspected to be suffering from the virus but who have not yet tested positive - have also been admitted to ICU.
