Car battery problems 'peak in lockdown'

A GROWING number of motorists appear to be experiencing issues with car batteries because their vehicles have been largely idle during the coronavirus lockdown.In the past four weeks, the amount of drivers visiting Kwik Fit workshops needing a new battery has been double the usual rate for the time of year.Battery failures traditionally peak in the winter months due to the greater demands placed on them in starting cold engines.

But the impact of the lockdown has seen the problem soar to levels similar to the average for January over the last five years.The number of fleet vehicles, such as company cars, requiring new batteries has risen by about 10 per cent compared with the same period last year, says Kwik Fit.The repair chain advises
