For thousands of families across the UK, hospices are a lifeline. They are a safe haven for seriously ill children, a place where they can make new friends, get medical care, take part in activities and day trips.
Hospices also provide much needed support and respite for the children’s families and siblings as well as end of life care. This year families have struggled to get the full support they need during the Coronavirus pandemic, leaving parents exhausted.
However most hospices have found new ways to connect with families and take the pressure of the NHS by going online, while some severely ill children have had continued home support from hospice staff.
