A Wuhan official has denied the coronavirus was created in a laboratory as experts say it was likely of animal origin. Yuan Zhiming, the Wuhan Institute of Virology’s Communist Party chief, criticised those who suggested the virus 'escaped' from the facility, which has since led to a global pandemic.
She told the China Global Television Network: “There is absolutely no way that the virus originated from our institute.” Yuan added that none of the lab employees, retirees or student researchers were known to be infected with the disease.
