Cocaine Anonymous reveal 1,000 Scots a week seek support via online meetings

More than 1,000 Scots every week are taking part in lockdown Cocaine Anonymous meetings.The chat rooms were hastily convened as a response to the current Covid.19 and organisers report a huge uptake after the drug spiralled out of control in recent years.Of 1,187 deaths in Scotland last year, 273 involved cocaine and the number is thought to be rising.

Many deaths affected problem users who also take heroin.More than 50 meetings are now up and running up and down Scotland, with an average of more than 25 people taking part.Many of those involved share personal details and offer support over the phone and via email and video chats after the meetings, as recovering addicts rally together.Organiser Alistair, whose surname is withheld, told how
