An elderly couple who had been together for 65 years died just hours apart after contracting coronavirus, their grandson says.
Steven Nash paid tribute to his grandparents on a day when the US saw its biggest single-day increase in Covid-19 deaths and the flu-like illness rapidly spread in New York and California.
The pair had six children and 18 grandchildren during a relationship that was in its seventh decade. Mr Nash, an entrepreneur from the US city of Chicago, Illinois, and a recent graduate of the University of Notre Dame, has urged people to "hug your loved ones tighter".
In a post shared more than 130,000 times, Mr Nash wrote on Twitter : "Lost both of my grandparents in the past 24hrs to covid-19. "Life comes at you fast.
