In less than four months, more Americans have died of coronavirus than in 20 years of the Vietnam War, harrowing figures show.
In the Vietnam War, which started in 1955 and ended in 1975, the United States lost 58,220 men and women. Earlier today, in just less than four months, the death toll from coronavirus in the US hit 58,223, as the nation passed an appalling milestone.
Reuters tallied up the death toll since the first coronavirus death recorded on February 29. Meanwhile Worldometers, a website which collects global figures, shows the US death toll is at 58,640 as of 11pm this evening.
The total is up more than 2,000 from the previous day. US cases have doubled in 18 days and make up one-third of all infections in the world,
