Ireland is expected to ban all mass gatherings until August as part of its coronavirus restrictions. The move, reportedly taken by ministers today, will apply to gatherings of more than 5,000 people and affect concerts and sporting events.
It is part of a series of measures due to be announced by Ireland's government, the Irish Mirror reports. Covid-19 is set to blow a €23 billion (£20m) black hole in the economy this year.
The government is bracing for unemployment rates of 22% this year, and only getting back to a more manageable rate below 10% sometime in 2021.
Minister for Finance, Paschal Donohoe, said: “The Irish economic landscape, in common with elsewhere, has been turned on its head in recent weeks. “The necessary restrictions
