Labour has said empty houses must be taken over to give vulnerable people crammed into overcrowded houses the chance to isolate in safety.
Shadow Housing Secretary John Healey is asking Ministers to give councils new emergency powers to help the country fight the coronavirus crisis.
Mr Healey says an overhaul of existing powers would allow councils to quickly take over empty housing on a temporary basis while the country battles covid-19.
This would allow those in badly overcrowded accommodation to have somewhere suitable when they’re ill or have to self-isolate.
