The number of schools partially shut due to coronavirus outbreaks quadrupled in seven days to one out of every 20. Around one in eight pupils were out of the classroom on Thursday, Department for Education (DfE) statistics show.
On that same day 4% of state schools were not fully open due to suspected or confirmed coronavirus cases. That figure is up from 1% on September 10.
While the DfE did not release specific numbers, data it publishes on the number of state nurseries, primaries and secondaries in England (22,029) suggest there are around 880 schools partially closed in the country.
