Wednesday marked the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. Of course, this year the event had a much different feel due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Before COVID-19, places were packed with people cleaning up Oshawa together for the annual event, but on Wednesday, parks were empty and streets were bare as this year’s community cleanup was cancelled.
Public figures, however, are still encouraging residents to do their part for the planet. Mayor Dan Carter says the city continues to have its crews out there. “We have an opportunity to make a difference in our community.
We’ve got to look after the Earth — it’s the only one that we’ve got and I’m encouraging everyone to do their little part,” said Carter.
