Coronavirus patients put on a ventilator have only a 34% chance of survival, a study from the Intensive Care National Audit and Research Centre has claimed.
The claims are based off of a study monitoring 6,720 critically-ill Covid-19 patients. Of the people who required advanced, respiratory support, known as invasive ventilation, just under two-thirds of patients died.
Data showed that 65.4% of the diseased died after requiring mechanical ventilation in critical care, while 34.6% on the same treatment were later discharged.
The Intensive Care National Audit and Research Centre (ICNARC) compared this to those who required non-invasive ventilation, such as an oxygen mask.
