Obese coronavirus patients are at a higher risk of being admitted to intensive care and death, government scientists have found.
The government's deputy chief scientific adviser, Professor Dame Angela McLean, was asked whether obese people should go on a diet in response to the coronavirus outbreak.
Prof McLean, answering questions alongside foreign secretary Dominic Raab today, said the government had 'fine evidence' that those who were severely overweight were more at risk of complications or death after contracting COVID-19.
Prof McLean said: "Those studies show that once you're in hospital, being obese is an additional risk factor for being admitted to an ICU, or indeed for death. "My understanding about the way to lose weight is that
