Coronavirus: UK national rail network reduced to core service from Monday

The British rail network will be reduced to a core service as of Monday to help tackle the spread of coronavirus. The Department for Transport (DfT) said it had agreed with rail operators across the country to scale back timetables from next week as people change their travel habits to help stop Covid-19 spreading.

Cores services will continue to run to help people attend medical appointments and allow emergency services and NHS staff get to work.

Changes to timetables will be kept under review, with there being a gradual move to widespread service reductions in the longer term.
