Hopes of a coronavirus vaccine have been handed a boost after a successful test on monkeys. Last month six rhesus macaque monkeys, considered the animal with the closest physical similarity to humans, were given a dose of the Oxford University vaccine at the Rocky Mountain Laboratory in Montana.

The animals were then exposed to heavy quantities of the coronavirus. After 28 days all six monkeys remained healthy and had no contracted Covid-19, reports the New York Times.

While immunity in monkeys doesn't guarantee protection for humans, it's a good sign for the vaccine. There will likely need to be multiple coronavirus vaccines, as some may work more effectively on certain demographics than others.
