Council to seek compensation over Covid-19 response

The chief executive of Dublin City Council has said the local authority will seek compensation from government for loss of revenue and additional emergency spending.

Owen Keegan said the council's finances are "under considerable pressure" as commercial rates make up one third of its revenue.

Speaking on RTÉ's Today with Sarah McInerney, Mr Keegan said the waiver of rates for business and a return to work grant of up to €10,000 paid through the rates scheme is welcome and will help the council.

However, he said there has been additional spending in recent months on homelessness as well as the fire service, which includes the ambulance service in the city.
