Country women to sew scrubs for medics

Women throughout Ireland are set to make medical scrubs at home for frontline workers battling coronavirus. This comes as the country - like many others around the world - struggle with supplies of personal protective equipment (PPE).

The National President of the Irish Countrywomen's Association has called on its 8,000 members to make scrubs in an email circulated throughout the organisation.

Josephine Helly asked members to take up their needle and thread in the battle against Covid-19. "The project is to supply some scrubs to areas where they are required as PPE equipment is in short supply," she told RTÉ’s News at One. "The ICS would have a tradition of having a lot of sewers in the association and they will all step up to the plate,"
