The Department of Health has been notified of a further 2,002 cases of Covid-19. There are 354 people in hospital who have tested positive for the virus, down one since yesterday.
Of these, 73 are in intensive care, a rise of four. In Northern Ireland, there were 1,276 new infections and two deaths recorded today.
The figures come as some senior health officials have urged the need for caution, given the rise in recent hospitalisations.
HSE Chief Executive Paul Reid said hospitalisations were "up 17% this week". He also added that of those being treated in intensive care, 67% were not vaccinated, while 3% were partially vaccinated. "We're all getting on with our lives more.
