The figures also show that an estimated 52,600 hospital admissions have been averted as a result of vaccinations in England alone.
However, the Public Health England (PHE) data comes as England’s deputy chief medical officer, Professor Jonathan Van-Tam, warned there could still be “one or two bumpy periods” ahead.
