A powerful 7.4 earthquake struck offshore Oaxaca, Mexico on Tuesday (June 23) killing at least five people, according to the Associated Press.

The quake, with an epicenter in the southern Mexico resort of Huatulco, also swayed buildings in Mexico City and sent thousands fleeing into the streets, with 147 aftershocks reported by noon.

Other minor damages from the earthquake include broken windows, collapsed walls and power was knocked out in some areas.
