There were 135 Covid-19 patients in intensive care at 8pm last night, sharply down on the night before due to a high number of deaths.
Ten Covid-19 patients being treated in intensive care died in the 24 hours up to 8am yesterday morning. It was the single highest daily number of Covid deaths in critical care since the pandemic began.
The Department of Health yesterday reported 574 new cases and a further 56 deaths. Official data showed the youngest person among those deaths notified to the Health Protection Surveillance Centre yesterday was just 16 years old.
The total number of confirmed cases is continuing to fall - it is down 12% in the past week compared to the previous seven days.
