A dedicated helpline will operate at NUI Galway this weekend, after an outbreak of Covid-19 among students at the University.

The HSE says that following a risk assessment, many close contacts of known cases have been identified. However, the nature of virus transmission means many others may have been exposed to it but have not developed symptoms.

It is urging any student with symptoms to contact their GP or the University's Student Health Unit over the weekend. Those with symptoms are being asked to call the unit between 9am and 9pm on Saturday and Sunday.

A separate contact number has been set up for students who think they may have been exposed to a confirmed case but who do not have symptoms, so that they can be referred for testing.
