Denise Welch says alcohol "ruined [her] life for 15 years." The Loose Women panellist and former Corrie actress, 62, has been sober now for eight years - but not after alcoholism took its toll on her life.

Taking to social media, she opened up about her struggle with booze and how it can impact life, relationships and mental health.

Denise tweeted: "Alcohol is the most dangerous drug because it's legal. "Violence is fuelled by it. In most domestic abuse incidents alcohol is a major contributor. "It is a major cause of anxiety & depression and yet we celebrate it everywhere. "It ruined my life for 15 yrs." Back in April, she marked eight years off the bottle.
