The NHS could face the "horrendous" task of having to choose who receives potentially life-saving treatment amid an increasing number of hospitals being overwhelmed with Covid-19 patients.
President of the Hospital Consultants and Specialists Association (HCSA) Claudia Paoloni warned the NHS doesn't have enough beds to cope with the peak of coronavirus cases being seen in the UK.
It comes as pressure mounts on the government to put millions more under the toughest coronavirus restrictions as the UK saw a record 51,135 new infections and 414 deaths yesterday. “Our NHS just doesn’t have the beds to cope," Dr Paoloni said, the Guardian reports. "Some areas will be overwhelmed in days.
