A former captain of Irvine Carters Society is hoping the community can keep the spirit of Marymass alive this year – by running their own events.Andy Tremble – captain from 1997 to 2003 – wants community groups to get together after the August festival was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. That depends on lockdown being lifted but Andy reckons there’s no reason why new events couldn’t become a part of the official celebrations next year if organisers get it right. He said: “This is a great opportunity for community groups in Irvine to come out and do their own thing and it could potentially progress to Marymass 2021.“There are lots of great community groups in Irvine and it’s entirely up to them to come up with an idea.
