A study in The Lancet Infectious Diseases yesterday found low COVID-19 case rates and outbreaks in schools and childcare centers that reopened after lockdown.The United Kingdom's first national lockdown (Mar 23 to May 31) led to the closure of nurseries, and primary and secondary schools.

Most schools at least partially reopened—with infection control measures and smaller class sizes— for the Jun 1 to Jul 17 summer half-term, serving 1.6 million of England's 8.9 million student population.Researchers used data from HPZone—a national online database for events that require public health management—to estimate the rates of SARS-CoV-2 infection and outbreaks among staff and students in a total of 57,600 schools attended by a median of 928,000
